| Collecting the Money |
Today my grandson Cade had surgery to remove a pin in his arm. He had an accident on a skate board about a year ago. Peru as the answer to America's medical problem. No pay up front - no surgery. The hospital and the doctor have to be paid for before surgery is performed. Now keep in mine the total for the bill was $1080 in American money. My son then translates the Spanish bill to English and sends the bill to the insurance company.
There is no welfare in Peru and there is a class of people both very rich and very poor. The poor beg for money on the street. There is a little girl on the street every morning in down town Lima who sits on the street with a old bathroom scale. She weights people for money. The street people have their wears out on blankets on the sidewalk. There is food being sold every where and you have to be careful.
Bob and I continue to laugh and enjoy watching the people. There are so many cars and people, it is a sight to behold. Pedestrians do not have the right of way and cars make right hand turns from the far left lane (so do the buses). I got on the bus the other day and went to the back of the bus. Bob told me I had better be careful who I sit by. There was this large, young Peruvian with arms 12 inches around. The guy was taller than Bob. Bob told me he would take anything I had and would be gone in a minute. I certainly do not see the world the same way my husband does.
We continue to photograph records at the archives. We are kind of isolated which keeps us from learning Spanish, but we love the people we work with. We will be traveling to some other archives to photograph records and will see some of this country. We copied 20 books the first week and only have to photograph one of the books over again.
Sunday, Bob bore his testimony in Spanish. He had really worked hard at learning it in Spanish. He carries his iPad everywhere and his translator. I, on the other hand have a lot of work to do but it will come. For most missionaries at takes 6 to 8 months.
We are still working on moving to the apartment. The Internet is not that easy to get. Hope we have it next week. Will move when it is in the apartment.
Bye for now.
Kris
