My nine year old granddaughter, Marin spoke in Sacrament Meeting on Mother's Day:
I suppose one of the hardships of a mission is missing out on life events of grandchildren at home. The consolation is today's wonderful technology that allow us to communicate over a vast distance with ease. Many know of the special relationship developed with Marin when I took care of her for six month at that special age when she was just learning to walk. This was during the time when Ashlee was completing her degree at BYU. I have just a ton of wonderful memories about those special days and the bond developed between my most special granddaughter. (Jim had the same experience with Kris' parents while I was in Viet Nam and I had the same bond with my mother's father.)
As Ashlee walked into Sacrament Meeting on Mother's Day, there was Marin seated on the stand ready to give a talk. While it was not a Father's Day talk, it was a special day in the life of a special granddaughter and I would have loved to have been there. However, within several hours we had a copy of her talk and even had it presented in person on SKYPE.
Marin I love you very very much, miss your smiling face, and wonderful hugs even more.
Grandpa.
Marin's Talk:
I have many wonderful mothers in my life.
My Great Grandma Suker is kind and loving and I love to visit her house.
My Grandma Bloomer makes me feel good, because she always has something nice to say about me. She is also a great example because she is serving a mission in Peru. Plus she takes me shopping.
My Grandma Simons give great hugs. She has wonderful sleep overs, even though she leaves the TV on all night.
My mom is the best example of all because she helps me with my homework. She is very pretty. When I am hurt she helps me feel better. She always makes me breakfast, lunch and dinner. I hope to be like her when I grow up and I hope to be like her when I grow up and I hope that I can become a great mom like her. I love you mom.
In the name of Jesus Christ Amen
