CHRISTMAS IN PERU

Malls full of people, Christmas decorations, winter Christmas scenes in the middle of summer, and lots of needy people, are all part of Lima, Peru's Christmas.  A major difference between Peru and the US are the decorations and Nativity scenes in all the City parks, public squares,  government buildings and officers.  Each work area at the National Archives has a Christmas Manger with Christ. No ACLU here to hamper the real joy of Christmas.

The division between rich, not so rich and poor would make North America think twice about the word "needy." People in Lima look for a niche to earn a living and the people pictured below have become a part of our daily lives.  Last week just outside the National Archives a young man making a living shinning shoes had what appeared to be his 12 year old son learning the business.  Two 16 and 17 years old cousins work an orange juice stand with their uncle where we get off the bus.

Tomorrow night our ward his having a Christmas Party and I suspect it will be a great event. I must say the Peruvian Saints can throw a good party and we always have a great time.
