Site Seeing in Cusco 1/26/2013

Even with the mix up, we are definitely not sorry we have moved to Cusco. This is a beautiful mountain town in the Andes and it will be almost like a six month vacation living here. This morning we got up and went to Plaza de Armas and went on the City Touring Bus. It was so beautiful. The bus took us up another 1000 feet to into the surrounding mountains to get bird's eye view of the city. We took lots of great pictures. The Spanish destroyed the major Inca temples in Cusco and built their own Cathedrals over them. Plaza de Armas was the center of the Inca civilization. The Inca had great concern for the environment and constructed many dams, irrigation and erosion structures.

The visit to Saqsaywaman was impressive. It is at 12,000 feet and covers about 7.5 acres.  It was the center of siege of Cusco during the Spanish Conquest. Much of the stone work complete by the Inca was removed by the Spanish to the center of the town after the siege.
