We arrived in Cuzco and were met by Fernando Agueo, the Facilities Manager for the Cuzco and Miguel Rojos, the 2nd counselor in the Mission Presidency. We were driven to our apartment which is right above Fernando's apartment. It is in an older section of Cuzco and are rent is only $260 a month. Not like my Lima apartment. I guest you get what you pay for. The apartment is dirty and will have to be cleaned tomorrow. The kitchen has a small refrigerator and no micro-wave or oven. I can work with this for 5 months. The bathroom can fit one person and all the sinks in the apartment dip with leaks. There is only hot water in the bathroom so I have to carry the hot water from the bathroom. But on the other hand we do have cable TV and get CNN in English. Fernando could tell how important the Internet was to me and connected my Internet to his until we can get the Internet. It will not be Wi Fi but it is the Internet and it is $20 a month. Fernando has been very gracious in getting us everything we need.
Yesterday, when David arrived we could see there was a problem. The Cuzco Archives Director said they would not be ready for us until the end of March. The Salt Lake Director asked if we would be willing to moved to another archives 300 miles southwest. I about died. It was so much work to move here. I told Bob moving would be out of the questions until we had met the archive director, and exhausted all possibilities and and we had traveled all over Cuzco and Machu Picchu. Today, things are worked out and we are going to help the archives move to a new building. Hopefully it will be a month or so before we can start photograph records. (Jan 22, we are down to a 15 day delay.)
