The Missionary Training Center is incredible. To participate is almost like dying and going to Heaven. Yesterday we were asked to stay an additional week and receive additional training on record preservation. So we will not be leaving until Friday, January 13. We were told there were some records we will be filming the next few months while we are learning Spanish. Also go home and bring causal clothes because often times the archives are dirty and dusty. So we have now learned about "Be ye there fore flexible." We learned it is not usual for missionaries to be assigned when they are in the MTC.
Tuesday night we attended the evening devotional talk with Elder James J Hamula of the Seventy. To set in the hall with 2000 missionaries and sing "Called to Serve" was a feeling I can not describe. Elder Hamula was the mission president in Samoa at the time of the tsunami and told the story of his moving the missionaries out of the area and not knowing the reason why, except it was the right thing to do.
Attached is a copy of the missionaries in our small study group and our teach Brother Barney. We have spent the week learning how it be a missionary. Wish I had been exposed to the techniques used to teach the gospel and work with inactive members. This has truly been inspiring. I know I will be a better visiting and home teacher because of this training.
We viewed the talk given by Elder David Bednar here at the training center at Christmas. It was one of the most inspiring stories I have ever heard. I will write more about the talk when I am in Peru and have more time.
Bob and I are attending Spanish classes at night. I thought a 10 hour work day was hard enough but these days are 12 hours of scripture, practice, eat and learn Spanish. Asking me how my Spanish is doing in 18 months.
Thanks to all our friends and family for the support as we serve this mission.
