Every Day Life

We have been gone three and a half months and we seem to be settling down to a routine. Up at  5 AM, off to archives 6:15 AM, Depart the Archives at 3 PM, on the bus, home at 4:30 PM. Evening are usually are own to do what we want. Our advisor is a Church employee David. Mission Presidents can not ask senior missionaries to do anything additional to their assignment unless the missionaries are assigned to their  mission. It is not safe to be out in Peru at night so we read, index, go over to Jim's home. Last night we helped Cher with her primary class at the Church. We gave a lesson on family history. Because the scouting program is not in Peru, the primary 8 - 11 year olds have activities during the week. Forgot my camera. Will bring it next week when the kids return their pedigree chart.

I need to discuss dirt. I mean real dirt that comes in the apartment and can drive you nuts. There are no screens on the windows, no heat or air conditioning in most homes and apartments in Peru. The hills and mountains around Peru are totally devoid of vegetation full of dust and half of it ends up in the apartment every night. In addition the streets in our neighborhood are undergoing a major over haul.  It is possible to vacuum every night and run a mop over the floors. My wonderful husband has taken this on as a assignment every day. I love him for it. I keep up with the washing. It is so humid that washing has to get done almost every day if some to dry. Because the of the dust and dirt we hang our clothes to dry in the bedroom. Other missionaries tell us not to use the dryer because it costs a lot to run the dryer.

We continue to love public transportation and being with the Peruvian people. Yesterday there were some big protests in downtown Lima. The protesters had traffic at several major intersections blocked. (Our Missionary Handbook advises missionaries to avoid protests and public demonstrations.)  We walk about a half-mile to-and-from the Archives to the Bus Stop and could not avoid the traffic congestion. I took pictures from far away and betters ones of the major Traffic Grid-Lock

Look at he people in the far Bacground

Traffic was Stopped
