CRETA AND POTATOES

Because we travel virtually the same route each day we run across many of the same people.  As a result we have developed many friendships.  Creta is one of them.

Yesterday Brother Lowe and I took two Peruvian attorneys to lunch.  We got to know them at our regular eating spot.  One attorney had been a policeman and Brother Lowe was an Minnesota attorney, so we hit it off well. As we parted from lunch both of them gave me a big hug.

Ella, a lady who has an orange juice stand near the Archives always has a smile and wave for us.  After I take a few sips of her orange juice, she always offers to top-off my dixie cup.

There are also some very poor people on the street with little children.  Often the kids are begging for food or a handout.  Yesterday morning, Oct 5, a lady and two small children were on the street at 6:40 am looking for a handout.  Each day there are lots of opportunities to change lives or make a little difference in Lima.

This is Creata and his bus Micky Mouse bus.  Because of Micky we have gotten to be good friends.  Since his bus is easy to recognize, he looks for us each morning and we look for Micky's bus.  Often when we do not catch his bus, we pass each other on the way to the Archives. He will wave and give us an expression of why didn't you wait for my bus.

The round balls on the left of the plate are dehydrated potatoes.  How are they made? Well, you put thin slices of potatoes in the freezing air over night. The next morning you take off your shoes and smash the water out with your bare feet. You repeat the process for several days and then roll the potatoes mush into little balls for storage.  You can serve with a Plum Glazing or just pop them into your mouth.  I prefer mine with the Plum Sauce.
