Side Trip and a Footnote

The jungles not far from Lima are among the top production areas for cocaine in South America.  Recently Peru surpassed Columbia in cocaine production.  The cleared jungle areas in the two pictures above are cleared for growing coca plants. This is the other side of life in Peru and a part that 25 years of police work could not ignore.  Even with my missionary badge on, I still get approached every once in a while about illegal substances.  Kris still gives me a bad time about bing so protective of her, but I know it only takes a second for things to go wrong.  A sister missionary had her purse ripped from her arm last week. So, it does happen.

One of the best part of our mission is getting to know the people of Lima. Over the past six months were have become acquainted with many people.  We have many street vendors that anxiously await are arrival each day.  This morning the bus Cobradoro had a big smile on his face when he saw us coming. This PM we jumped on the same bus going home.  That was amazing in itself since there are fifty or sixty buses on our route. The guy light up when we stepped on his bus and smiled the whole time.  When he collected our fee I gave our destination so he would know what to charge, he smiled and said, I know where you are going."  I am not sure what individuals think when Kris wants to takes their picture, but she has never been refused.  They might think she is a little crazy,  but they always have a big smile and she has taken some great shots.
