Caral: The Oldest Civilization of the Americas in Peru

THE SACRED CITY OF CARAL
THE OLDEST CIVILIZATION OF AMERICA
"The City of Caral, located 182 kilometres North of Lima in the Supe Valley, is considered to be the most ancient in America, almost as ancient as Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and China. The City of Caral is formed by a group of edifications that allow us to witness the great scientific, technological and artistic advances its people achieved; an amazing process of development that took place under a total isolation in opposition to the cultural exchange of the societies of the old continent."  These are Step Pyramids build for one of their many gods.

Caral is located on a little plateau 500 feet above the river.  Without water this land is a harsh arid desert of sand, rock and dust. But, add a little water and watch it bloom.  According to the guide there were no domesticated animals, no pottery, no weapons of war or evidence of war.

Flags mark the corners of walls.

Restoration requires the numbering of every stone (white dots are numbers) so each stone is returned to its original position.

Restoration will take another 10 to 15 years with about 200 people working on the project.

Each rock was carried on the backs of workers and dropped in place with the rope harness attached.
